When is Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht released?

The official Release of Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht is July 17, 2026. Products from the expansion are expected to be regularly available from this date. For pre-orders, shipping is generally scheduled for the Release, so that Collectors and Players can get started with the new set as close to launch as possible.

When it comes to popular Pokémon sets, it’s worth keeping an eye on availability early. New main sets featuring powerful Pokémon, special illustrations, and popular themes can quickly become highly sought after. This is especially true when a set has a clear theme and includes several cards that appeal to both Collectors and Players.

What is Dunkelnacht about?

The name Dunkelnacht alone reveals where things are headed: the set embraces a dark, mysterious atmosphere. At its heart is Mega-Darkrai-ex, a Pokémon that perfectly fits this theme. Darkrai has been one of the most popular Mythical Pokémon for many years and is especially associated with nightmares, shadows, and darkness.

This very atmosphere is what makes Dunkelnacht interesting for Collectors. Pokémon sets are about more than just powerful cards; their theme matters too. A set with a clear dark focus stands out visually from brighter, more playful expansions and may appeal especially to fans of Darkrai, Ghost Pokémon, Dark-type Pokémon, and striking artwork.

Alongside Mega-Darkrai-ex, other Mega Evolution Pokémon ex have also been announced, including Mega-Zeraora-ex, Mega-Chandelure-ex, and Mega-Excadrill-ex. This means Dunkelnacht brings not just one highlight, but several big names.

The return of Mega-Entwicklung remains exciting

For many Pokémon fans, Mega-Entwicklung is one of the most popular mechanics of all. It represents especially powerful forms of familiar Pokémon and often comes with spectacular designs. In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are therefore not only interesting to play with, but also real eye-catchers.

Dunkelnacht continues this Mega era, focusing on Pokémon that perfectly suit the set’s darker style. Mega-Darkrai-ex is likely to be the clear flagship of the expansion for many Collectors. At the same time, Pokémon like Mega-Zeraora-ex and Mega-Excadrill-ex ensure that the set isn’t reduced to just one chase Pokémon.

Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are also exciting for Players, as they generally come with high HP, powerful attacks, and striking effects. At the same time, they carry a higher risk, since powerful Pokémon ex are often particularly valuable targets for opponents in play. This very mix of power and risk is what makes them interesting.

How many cards are in Pokémon Nightfall?

The expansion includes over 115 cards. These include more than 20 Trainer cards and over 35 cards featuring special Pokémon and Trainer illustrations. This means Nightfall appeals not only to Players looking for new Trainer cards and powerful Pokémon for their decks, but also to Collectors hoping for Illustration Rares, Special Product Illustration Rares, and special artwork.

Illustration cards are likely to play a major role in this set. A dark theme offers plenty of room for striking designs: shadows, night, glowing effects, mysterious landscapes, and dynamic Pokémon poses. Darkrai, Chandelure, and Zeraora in particular have plenty of visual potential for their artwork.

Which cards ultimately become the set’s biggest highlights usually only becomes clear once more artwork and card lists are revealed. But it’s already clear that Nightfall has enough special cards to get Collectors excited.

Which cards could be especially sought after?

With every new Pokémon set, the question quickly comes up: Which cards will be the chase cards? In Nightfall, the Mega Evolution Pokémon-ex are naturally at the center of attention. Mega-Darkrai-ex in particular is likely to be highly sought after, as Darkrai has a strong fan base and fits the set’s theme perfectly.

Mega-Zeraora-ex could also attract a lot of attention. Zeraora is a popular Mythical Pokémon with a dynamic design that lends itself well to energetic artwork. If Zeraora gets a special illustration or a visually striking rare variant, this card could quickly become one of the set’s most popular.

Mega-Chandelure-ex also fits the dark style of Nightfall perfectly. Chandelure has plenty of potential for impressive illustrations thanks to its Ghost- and Fire-type appearance. Mega-Excadrill-ex also brings a different direction to the set as a powerful Pokémon, and could be especially interesting for Players.

Alongside Pokémon ex, Collectors should also keep an eye out for special Trainer cards. Trainer cards with striking illustrations are often very popular in modern Pokémon sets, especially when they feature well-known characters or particularly atmospheric scenes.

Who will enjoy Dunkelnacht the most?

Dunkelnacht is a set that appeals to several different audiences. For Collectors, the theme is especially exciting. Darkrai, dark motifs, Mega Evolutions, and special illustrations make for a combination with plenty of collecting appeal.

The set may be interesting for Players, as new Pokémon ex and Trainer cards can open up fresh deck-building possibilities. Not every card is known in detail yet, but Mega Evolution Pokémon ex tend to come with strong stats and striking game mechanics. Anyone who enjoys trying out new strategies should keep an eye on Dunkelnacht.

The set can also be a good choice for Beginners. A Booster Bundle or individual Booster packs offer an easy way to get started without having to buy a complete Booster Display. Anyone who simply enjoys opening new packs will find Dunkelnacht an atmospheric set with plenty of potential highlights.

Booster packs, Booster Bundle, or Booster Display: Which is right for you?

With new Pokémon sets, the question often comes up of which product is the best fit. That depends on whether you mainly want to collect, play, or simply open Booster packs.

3 Pack Blister Pack

Individual Booster packs are a good choice if you want to get a first taste of the set. The 3 Pack Blister Pack is ideal for a treat, as a small gift, or if you simply want to open a few packs without buying a larger product. It also includes a Bithora card.

Booster Bundle

A Booster Bundle is a good middle ground for many Collectors. It contains several Booster packs but is more compact than a Booster Display. This makes it especially appealing to anyone who wants more opening fun than with individual boosters but doesn’t want to buy a large quantity right away.

Booster Display

A Booster Display is more suited to Collectors and Players who want to open lots of Booster packs. Those who want to collect a set more intensively or hope to find specific cards often opt for a Booster Display. Of course, it's also a bigger investment.

Elite Trainer Box

Elite Trainer Boxes are especially popular because they combine Booster packs with Accessories. Depending on the product, these may include Card Sleeves, Dice, Energy cards, a storage box, and other items. They're practical for Players and often appealing to Collectors because of the box, its design, and possible promo cards.

Darknight for Collectors: Why the set has potential

For Collectors, three things stand out about Darknight: its theme, the Pokémon selection, and the special illustrations. A dark set featuring Mega Darkrai ex has a clear identity. Such sets are often more memorable than expansions without a clear focus.

Darkrai is also popular with many fans. Pokémon with a strong fan base often have an advantage in Trading cards, because fans seek them out not only for gameplay, but also for emotional reasons. Add striking artwork or a rare variant, and a card can quickly become a set highlight.

The more than 35 cards with special Pokémon and Trainer illustrations also make Darknight interesting to Binder collectors. Modern Pokémon sets are heavily collected for their artwork. Many fans don't just want to own the rarest cards, but above all the most beautiful designs.

Darknight for Players: New cards for fresh strategies

Although Collectors often look at the rare cards first, Darknight can also be exciting to play. New Pokémon ex and Trainer cards can improve existing decks or enable entirely new strategies.

Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are likely to stand out in play. They usually bring high attack power and strong effects, but must be used wisely. Those who rely only on raw strength can quickly be punished. But those who sensibly build Mega Pokémon ex into their Deck can prepare some very forceful plays.

The set's Trainer cards shouldn't be underestimated either. In many Pokémon formats, it's often not just the powerful Pokémon that make a Deck strong, but the right Trainer cards. They provide consistency, speed, and better plays.

Dunkelnacht could be a strong set for Collectors and Players

Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht has all the ingredients for an exciting set: a clear, dark theme, Mega Darkrai ex as a standout card, other Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, and numerous special illustrations. The set is likely to be especially interesting for Collectors who enjoy atmospheric artwork and popular Pokémon.

At the same time, Dunkelnacht also holds potential for Players. New Pokémon ex cards, Mega Evolutions, and Trainer cards could bring fresh ideas to decks. Which cards will ultimately be especially powerful or sought-after will become clear once more details and card lists are available.

If you want to open the set on its Release, you should keep an eye on availability early. Whether you're looking for a Booster Bundle, individual Booster packs, a Booster Display, or an Elite Trainer Box, Dunkelnacht is a set that is likely to appeal to many Pokémon fans.
